This art museum opened in 1996 in what was once a Catholic boys' school. It draws from some 10,000 artworks in the national collection to present exhibitions on contemporary art from Southeast Asia. The permanent collection is rotated regularly, so that visitors may get the chance to view important works such as the evocative installation Pinkswing Park by Agus Suwage and Davy Linggar, the 6-meter-long photorealist painting Fall Leaves After Leaves Fall by
Nona Garcia, or the monumental Status by Jane Lee. A museum extension, SAM at 8Q, displays a selection of multidisciplinary and interactive works.
