Vang Vieng
Getting Here & Around
By Bus
From Vientiane, you can take the Luang Prabang-bound VIP bus, which runs three times a day, takes three to four hours to reach Vang Vieng, and costs 70,000 kip. You can also take a local bus or songthaew from the northern bus station; it costs 50,000 kip and takes four to five hours.
If you're coming from Luang Prabang, VIP buses headed back to Vientiane stop here three times a day as well—the journey takes seven hours and costs 135,000 kip. Minivans to Vang Vieng can be arranged at travel agencies in both cities for about the same price as a VIP bus ticket.
A daily bus also goes to Phonsavanh (Plain of Jars) for 85,000 kip (9 hours).
By Songthaew
Songthaew run from the bus station, 2 km (1 mi) north of town, to all hotels for 10,000 kip per person. They can also be hired for excursions farther afield; prepare to bargain.
