Luang Prabang has some of the most elegant resorts in the world. Vientiane has a classic colonial luxury hotel, a few boutique options, and several international-caliber business-style hotels. Upscale options have opened around Champasak in the south. Otherwise, fancy resorts in Laos are few and far between, though there are perfectly adequate facilities in Pakse and the Plain of Jars. New resorts are starting to spring up, but in Phongsaly, Muang Ngoi, 4,000 Islands, and other out-of-the-way places, amenities such as Wi-Fi connections and even basics like hot water may not be up to par.
