Fodor's Review

Pakxan, 150 km (93 miles) south of Vientiane, in Bolikhamxay Province, is a former French-colonial outpost, a Mekong River port, and now the center of the Lao Christian community. Traveling south from Pakxan, Highway 13 crosses the Nam Kading River, for which the protected-forested NBCA (National Biodiversity Conservation Area Nam Kading) is named. About 90 km (56 miles) south of Pakxan Highway 13 meets Highway 8, which leads via Lak Sao to Nam Pho on the Vietnamese border. From here the road leads to the Vietnamese coastal city of Vinh and other areas of north Vietnam.
