Miyajima
Getting Here and Around
The easiest, least expensive way to get to Miyajima is to take the train on the JR San-yo Line from Hiroshima Station to Miyajima-guchi Station. From Miyajima-guchi Station, a three-minute walk takes you to the pier where ferries depart for Miyajima. The train takes about 25 minutes (¥400) and departs from Hiroshima every 15-20 minutes. The first train leaves Hiroshima at 5:55 am; the last ferry returns from Miyajima at 10:05 pm. There are two boats, but the JR Rail Pass is only valid on the JR-operated boat (¥340 round trip without Rail Pass). Allow a minimum of three hours for the major sights of Miyajima, or just one hour to get photos of O-torii and the shrine.
Inside the ferry terminal (common to both lines), tucked in the entrance to a novelty and snack shop, is the English-speaking Miyajima Tourist Association.
