Nakase is a lovely retreat from the overbearing crowds at Asakusa Kannon. The building, which is 130 years old, lends to a truly authentic Japanese experience: food is served in lacquerware bento boxes and there's an interior garden and pond, which is filled with carp and goldfish. Across Orange-dori from the redbrick Asakusa Public Hall, Nakase is expensive (lunch at the tables inside starts at ¥3,000; more elaborate meals by the garden start at ¥7,000), but the experience is worth it.
