Ame-ya Yoko-cho Market

  • Address: Ueno 4-chome, Taito-ku, Tokyo

Fodor's Review:

Everything from fresh fish to cheap import clothing is for sale at this bustling warren of side streets between Okachi-machi and Ueno stations. In the days leading up to New Years, the area turns into mosh-pit mayhem as shoppers fight for fish and snacks to serve over the holidays. The name of the market is often shortened to Ameyoko. Most shops and stalls are open daily 10-7.

  • Subway: JR Ueno Station (Hiroko-ji Exit), JR Okachi-machi Station (Exit A7)
