The Shinjuku Park Tower has in some ways the most arrogant, hard-edged design of any of the skyscrapers in Nishi-Shinjuku, but it does provide any number of opportunities to rest and refuel. Some days there are free chamber-music concerts in the atrium. There are any restaurants to choose from in the building, with a variety of international and Japanese restaurants. In the afternoon, you can ride up to the skylighted bamboo garden of the Peak Lounge on the 41st floor of the Park Hyatt Hotel (03/5322-1234). This is the set location of the Oscar-winning film, Lost in Translation; the rates at Park Hyatt skyrocketed after the film became a hit and Sofia Coppola accepted the Oscar in 2003 for best screenplay. Just for kicks, have a Suntory whiskey at the New York Bar on the 41st floor. Also come for high tea, allegedly the best Sunday brunch in the city, and a spectacular view.
