Built like a fortress, this edifice survived World War II virtually intact and was taken over by the Supreme Command of the Allied powers. From his office here, General Douglas MacArthur directed the affairs of Japan from 1945 to 1951. The room is kept exactly as it was then. Individuals and small groups can visit without appointment; you need only to sign in at the reception desk in the lobby.
