Fodor's Review:

The museum displays its own collection of modern Japanese art on the lower level and rents out the remaining two floors to various art institutes and organizations. At any given time, there can be at least five exhibits in the building: international exhibitions, work by local young painters, or new forms and materials in sculpture or modern calligraphy.

  • Cost: Permanent collection free; fees vary for other exhibits (usually ¥800-¥1,400)
  • Open: Daily 9-5; closed 3rd Mon. of month
  • Subway: JR Ueno Station (Koen-guchi/Park Exit)
