Tokyo Nightlife

National Theater (Kokuritsu Gekijo)

National Theater (Kokuritsu Gekijo) Review

This theater hosts Kabuki companies based elsewhere; it also has a training program for young people who may not have one of the hereditary family connections but want to break into this closely guarded profession. Debut performances, called kao-mise, are worth watching to catch the stars of the next generation. Reserved seats are usually ¥1,500-¥9,000. Tickets can be reserved by phone up until the day of the performance by calling the theater box office between 10 and 5.
