A half-hour bus ride from JR Morioka Station takes you to this quiet hot spring town and upscale ryokan. This is a traditional ryokan, so two meals a day are served in your tatami room. Landslide-protection walls around the premises prevent you from seeing picturesque mountain views, but rooms peer out on a Japanese garden where goldfish swim in a pond. You can borrow a laptop from the front desk to check your email for free, or you can connect your own to the hotel's
speedy service. From JR Morioka Station, take the Iwate Kotsu bus bound for Tsunagi Onsen (30 minutes; ¥620).
