Goshogake Onsen Review

Though they are remote and rustic, some truly unique onsen resorts may appeal to intrepid travelers looking to soak and linger in the wild. One of the most visited resting spots is 2 hours, 10 minutes from Tazawa-ko bus station (three buses daily from late April to late October). You can hike the 2-km (1-mi) nature trail, and then be steamed, boiled, or braised—try the old-fashioned "steaming-box" baths where only your head protrudes—in a wide assortment of mineral baths situated among the bubbling mud and vaporous swamps.
