Rinno-ji (Rinno Temple)

Rinno-ji (Rinno Temple) Review

Interested in Zen meditation? This temple, with a quintessentially Japanese garden, holds zazen-kai (Zen meditation class) on Saturday evenings. In June, the garden is a blaze of color; azaleas, irises, water lilies, gnarled pines, and bamboos harmonize with each other. It's best to visit in the evening when tranquillity returns after flocks of visitors left. The garden is a 30-minute walk from Osaki Hachiman Jinja, northwest of the city center, and if you come directly from Sendai Station, take the JR train to Kita-Sendai Station and walk 10 minutes.
