Fodor's Review

This restaurant is named after the local breed of chicken that goes into hinai-jidori kiritanpo-nabe, a hot pot dish made with cooked rice that's put onto skewers (usually cedar or bamboo) and grilled over a charcoal fire. The rice is then simmered in a pot with chicken and broth, burdock root, green onions, and mushrooms (¥1,890). Tsukune-bo (skewered chicken meatballs) is equally tasty. Noisy, fun-loving Shukitei Hinaiya is conducive to partying, and even the fish swimming in the tank seem oblivious to their fate. In the heart of the Kawabata entertainment district, this second-story place is a block from the river.
