Fodor's Review

Avant-garde performances of live shamisen—an instrument that feels like a more serious cousin of the banjo—by promising young performers and seasoned experts are the main attraction here, more so even than the food. Jams take place every evening at 7:30 and 9:30. Arrive early to sit on cushions on the floor, in local style, and enjoy such dishes as grilled scallops. Many items on the menu are incomprehensible to even native speakers, as they go by local names; if you are an adventurous diner, point and anticipate. Some of the hot pots (around ¥3,000) are big enough for two.
