In a country that often falls back on the myth of everyone living in egalitarian harmony, Liberty Osaka is one of the city's more unique sights. The museum delves into issues of discrimination in Japan based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and physical disabilities. In addition to an English-language audio guide and a 30-page booklet detailing the museum's contents, each section has a documentary video with English subtitles. The highly informed volunteer staff are happy to answer questions about the permanent and temporary exhibits. Although it's less centrally located than some of Osaka's other sights, Liberty Osaka is highly recommended for anyone interested in issues regarding discrimination.
