Totenkaku

Totenkaku Review

This Chinese restaurant has been famous among Kobe residents since 1945 for its Peking duck, flown in fresh from China. Built at the turn of the 20th century, Totenkaku is in one of Kobe's ijinkan, the F. Bishop House. With tall ceilings, red carpets, luxurious curtains, and artwork from China, the building itself is worth the proverbial cost of admission. You can keep the price down by ordering one of the Chinese noodle specialties to fill you up, or by going at lunchtime, when you can have a set meal for just ¥2,100, but some of the special dishes can cost up to ¥31,000.
