Fodor's Review

The same hourly bus that runs between Wajima and Sosogi continues on to this town on the uchi (inside) coast. Just south of Suzu, near Ukai Station, is a dramatic offshore rock formation called Mitsuke-jima, a huge wedge of rock topped with lush vegetation, connected to the shore with a pebbly path popular with lovers. It is said that Kobo Daishi gave it the nickname of Gunkan Island, or Battleship Island, because it resembles a warship sailing to

attack.
