The Japan Alps and the North Chubu Coast Places

Noto-hanto (Noto Peninsula)

Getting Here and Around

Nanao, on east coast of peninsula, and Wajima, on the north coast of Noto-hanto are accessible by JR Limited Express via Kanazawa. The peninsula is a good place to explore by car or bicycle. Although the interior routes can be arduous, the coastal roads are relatively flat. You can also combine train and bus trips or guided tours, which can be arranged in Kanazawa. From Anamizu the private Noto Line goes northeast to Takojima, the region's most scenic route. The line to Wajima turns inland after Hakui and misses some of the peninsula's best sights. In Wajima your best bet for a car is Nissan Rent-a-Car at Wajima Station. Rent bikes in Hakui from Kato Cycle for ¥800 per day across from Joyful Supermarket, west of the JR station.
