If you want to see Kochi's refined side, try a Tosa Ryori course at Tosahan. Dark-wood beams, tatami floors, and red-paper lanterns create a rich atmosphere. A picture menu and displays make ordering easy. Katsuo is the specialty, along with nabe hot pots, and anything you get will be more or less perfect. Look for the giant backlit poster of Ryoma, Kochi's claim-to-fame samurai, glowering at you a few blocks into Obiya-machi arcade.
