Kotohira

Getting Here and Around

Partake in a centuries-long story of pilgrimage when you climb the sacred mountain Kompira-san in the town of Kotohira, smack in the middle of Shikoku. Kotohira is 1 hour from Takamatsu by JR or Kotoden train. JR lines run south 40 minutes to Awa Ikeda for easy access to Iya or Kochi; otherwise, a change at Tadotsu gives access to Matsuyama. The easy access is a blessing since the town dies after nightfall and you'll prefer to lodge elsewhere. Ditch your bags in coin lockers and pick up a map at the local information center located smack between the JR and Kotoden stations before heading to the mountain.
