By Train in Osaka

Hikari shinkansen trains from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka Station take about three hours and cost ¥13,950. You can use a JR Pass for the Hikari but not for the faster Nozomi shinkansen trains, which cost ¥14,720 and are about 30-minutes faster. Shin-Osaka Station, on the north side of Shin-Yodo-gawa, is linked to the city center by the JR Kobe Line and the Mido-suji subway line. On either line the ride, which takes 6-20 minutes depending on your mid-city destination, costs ¥180-¥230. Train schedules and fare information can be obtained at the Travel Service Center in Shin-Osaka Station. A taxi from Shin-Osaka Station to central Osaka costs ¥1,500-¥2,700.
