National Bunraku Theater

Fodor's Review:

Bunraku became an art form in Osaka -- so seeing a performance here is paying homage to the likes of Chikamatsu Monzaemon, the Shakespeare of Japan. The theater is open in January, March, April, June, July, August, and November. Each run starts on the third of the month and lasts about three weeks. Osaka's tourist offices will have the current schedule, which is also printed in Kansai Time Out and the quarterly tourist booklet Meet Osaka. Tickets are ¥4,400 and ¥5,600; performances usually begin at 11 AM and 4 PM. From the Namba subway station, take the Sennichi-mae subway line one stop east to Nippon-bashi Station. Exit 7 will bring you right outside the theater.
