Neon lights and sake nights lure Osakans to Dotombori-dori's bars, restaurants, and shops. The street runs alongside Dotombori-gawa, and it's the best place to experience Osaka nightlife. Presiding over the river is the Glico man: Osaka's most famous neon athlete. Ebisu-bashi, the main bridge spanning the river, is a popular romantic spot and where young fans gather when major sports events take place. The atmosphere can crescendo with exuberant fans diving in – much to the annoyance of the police. As if Dotombori didn't already have the density of downtown Cairo, "a Waterfront Theater Palace" (platforms for strolling and eating) is being built in front of the buildings that front the river!
