This enclave of pottery studios and giant wood-fired kilns (and the occasional glassblower's forge) meanders through a woodsy jumble of dirt lanes and Ryukyu-style houses. You can glimpse artisans at work crafting bowls, dishes, and sculptures in any number of distinctive styles as you wander around the tiny village. Pieces created here are sold in the adjoining shops. Hidden away at the back is the studio of Omine-san, an excellent potter who, along with his three sons, produces pieces for everyday use, for the tea ceremony, and as works of art. The village is an hour north of Naha in Yomitan Village past Kadena base; turn left onto Route 12 from Route 58 and follow the signs.
