Ishigaki-jima
Getting Here and Around
Both JTA and ANK airlines make the 55-minute flight from Naha to Ishigaki-jima. Late night arrivals may miss the last bus to the city, but a taxi-ride won't cost more than ¥1,000. From Ishigaki city, ferries connect to the surrounding islands. Only far-off Yonaguni requires another flight.
Ishigaki City is small and walkable; pick up a map at your hotel or the bus center across from the port, where you'll also find pamphlets on attractions and vital ferry and bus schedules. Getting around the island by car and motor-scooter is a snap—there's really no traffic and only a few roads—and rental places litter the town like sandal shops. Try Ai-Ai caddy-corner to the post office for bicycles, scooters and motorcycles.
