Lodgings range from no-frills beach shacks to shockingly lavish resorts. As you get farther from Naha things begin to look decidedly more local, and with a few exceptions, you won't find anything suggesting "luxury" among the outlying islands. We recommend the smaller-scale accommodations in Okinawa, especially on Honto, where the nicest resorts line the grubbiest beaches along an over-developed central coast twinkling with electric lights—probably not what you came here for. Find unspoiled scenery, friendly service, interesting locals and tourists, and knowledgeable recommendations for local tours at smaller, local-run hotels and inns.
