Ise

Getting Here and Around

Ise can be reached from Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka by JR and Kintetsu lines, with the latter's Limited Express service from Nagoya being the fastest option. The city has two stations five minutes apart, Ise-shi (JR and Kintetsu) and Uji-Yamada (Kintetsu only). From either station it's only a 10-minute walk through town to the Outer Shrine. A frequent shuttle bus makes the 6-km (4-mi) trip between Geku and Naiku; a bus also goes directly from the Inner Shrine to Ise Station.

You can arrange a full-day tour to Ise and the Mikimoto Pearl Island at Toba from Nagoya (¥19,800) or Kyoto (¥25,300) through JTB Sunrise Tours.

Ise Tourist Information Center is across the street from the Outer Shrine, and has information about both Ise and the surrounding area.
