Planning Your Time

Fukuoka is a great base for exploring the northern part of Kyushu. Spend a day orienting yourself and seeing Fukuoka's sights, then take day trips to Nagasaki, Kumamoto, and Yufuin. If you have more time, it's worth getting off the beaten track to see the volcano Mt. Aso. After a day in Kagoshima, you could spend a couple of days exploring the beautiful mountainous area of Kirishima, or jump on a ferry to the island of Yakushima.
