Just across from the castle, things here are dark-wooded and traditional enough to be mysterious, but the service is excellent and modern. They'll even help you plan out a timetable for a journey to Aso-san, continue to check into it while you get yourself ready, and then be forthright enough to tell you that persistent cloud cover and showers are likely to make your arduous day-trip a dubious adventure, and suggest alternative local activities. Rooms come in an amazing variety of layouts, all with ornate puffy furnishings in luscious creamy colors, and now that the castle restoration is finished, you'll get a great view.
