A 24-hour ferry connects Kagoshima Port (4-1 Shin-machi, Hon-ko. 099/223-7271) with Sakura-jima Port (61-4 Yokoyama-cho, Sakura-jima. 099/293-2525), at the foot of the volcano itself. There are four to six ferries per hour, with fewer connections after 9 pm. The one-way fare is ¥150, and the trip takes only 10-15 minutes. To get to the pier from Kagoshima Chuo Station, take Bus East-4 or 5 for the short ¥180 ride.
