Eikan-do Review

Next to the Nanzen-ji temple complex, Eikan-do was built after the original temple, dating from 855, was destroyed in the 15th century. Visitors come throughout the year to see the lifelike Amida Buddha statue with a turned head, which is said to have once come alive to dance with a reveling priest. The temple draws the most visitors in autumn, when people come to see the colorful foliage, and in November, when there's an excellent display of painted doors.
