Matsubaya Inn Review

This simple ryokan welcomed its first guest, a monk from the nearby temple, in 1884. You won't find kimono-clad attendants here, but you also won't find wallet-emptying rates. Welcoming innkeepers, pleasant rooms (most of which have private baths), and a good location facing the massive Higashi-Hongan-ji Temple make Matsubaya Inn a great find. Ask about the studio apartments on the top floor, a great place for longer stays. Renovations went a bit overboard in modernizing the 19th-century property, removing some of the charm.
