Gekkeikan Okura Kinenkan

Fodor's Review:

Not far from Fushimi-Inari Taisha is an old sake-brewery district of white-walled warehouses dating back 400 years. Near the plentiful rice paddies of Shiga and the old trade canals that connected Kyoto, Osaka, and Uji, it's an ideal setting for sake brewing. Gekkeikan, founded in 1637, is one of the oldest breweries. The museum within the brewery displays utensils used to make sake. The brewery is a five-minute walk from Chushojima Station, on the Keihan Line, or a 10-minute walk from Momoyama Goryo-mae Station, on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. Reservations must be made in advance.

  • Cost: ¥300
