Westin Miyako Hotel Review

Located at the foot of the mountains, the Westin Miyako feels far from the city while retaining great access to downtown (the Keage subway stop is convenient). Picturesque temples like Nanzen-ji and Chion-in are nearby, making sightseeing very easy. You can get even closer to nature by taking advantage of the hotel's walking trail, traditionally manicured gardens, and indoor and outdoor pools. Annexes hold Japanese-style rooms with the feel of traditional ryokan lodgings.

With all the guide books recommending this hotel above all the rest it was an easy decision and my expectations were high for my first visit to Kyoto. The hotel was a disappointment in every respect. I would recommend it only to large tour groups, wedding parties and conventions. Definitely not for the traveler looking for superior comfort and extraordinary service. A decent hotel but unworthy of its lofty reputation and hefty price tag.

This is a fantastic hotel! Our rooms had beautiful views and were perfectly appointed. The mountain in back of the hotel was fun to climb with my eight-year-old son. The health club and pool were spotless. The breakfast and dinner buffet were delicious. The service was excellent, delivered with plenty of style. Temples and the city zoo were a short walk away. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
