Like Gion, Ponto-cho is known for its nightlife. At the north end of Pontocho-dori, the Ponto-cho Kaburenjo presents the visually spectacular geisha song-and-dance performances in spring (May 1-24) and autumn (October 15-November 7). The theater sits on the west side of the Kamo-gawa between Sanjo and Shijo streets.
