Fodor's Review:

Exhibitions at this museum in a Meiji-era redbrick building change regularly, but you can count on an excellent display of paintings, sculpture, textiles, calligraphy, ceramics, lacquerware, metalwork, and archaeological artifacts from its permanent collection. The artwork is mainly Japanese, though some foreign pieces. From Kyoto Station take Bus 206 or 208 to the Sanjusangen-do-mae stop. The museum is across Higashi-oji-dori from Chishaku-in.

  • Cost: ¥500; additional fee for special exhibitions
  • Open: Tues.-Sun. 9-4:30
