This is the end of Japan. Ahead of you, across the frigid waters, is Russia's Sakhalin Island (sometimes visible). This lonely but significant spot is the site of several monuments marking the border of Japan's territory. A public bus makes the hour-long run between Wakkanai and Cape Soya six times a day. It's worth going to if you've come up this far, just to say you've done it. But the only regional points of interest are Rebun, Rishiri, and Cape Soya itself.
