Hotel Okura Review

In the shopping heart of the city, one block from the Odori subway station, the Okura gets the balance between style and the personal connection just right. Public areas are small, so the staff gets to know you quickly, although upstairs the rooms are spacious. Artful lighting, interior blinds, and a color scheme of browns and creams set a Japanese mood missing in many large hotels. Toh-Ka-Lin, the hotel's Cantonese restaurant, offers a good, inexpensive lunch set for couples (¥3,700), and at the afternoon tea at Kanshoan you get your own cake stand full of goodies (¥3,600). Twenty-four-hour advance reservations are essential for the tea.
