Fodor's Review

Between the big hotels—but at a fraction of the price and with a more personal welcome—this 45-year-old hostel is a good base for mountain hiking. It's basic, but since accommodations elsewhere are either full or processing their tourists like sausages, it's worth considering if you don't mind sleeping with strangers. Dorm rooms have 8 wide bunk beds, and there are tatami or bunk-bed family rooms for 4 or 6 people. It also has small Japanese baths and rentable mountain

boots. Closed from October to May.
