Nakazushi Review

Rotarian Kanio Nakano presides over the Ohotsuku-kai's freshest catch in a small restaurant near the Abashiri Central Hotel run for more than 40 years by the same family. Depending on the season, Nakano-san has salmon roe on rice, sea urchin, and the plump, juicy Abashiri scallop. Tsuchi-kujira (Baird's beaked whale) is sometimes on the menu. Although Nakano-san doesn't speak English, he's aware of the whale-meat debate and can make substitutions if you let him know your no-whale preference through gestures.
