Staying at Hotel Maki is a change of style from the sterility of big-city lodgings—the Inada family greets your every return with a hearty "Welcome back!" Six of the spacious tatami-mat rooms have private baths, and all have toilets and washbasins. There's also a general bath. The inn is a favorite with out-of-town baseball and ski teams, who wolf down the very generous Japanese-style breakfast going for ¥890. The hotel sits in a quiet area five streetcar stops from Susukino. If you have multiple people in one room (say 3 or 4), you can try to make a deal for a cheaper per-person price.
