Akan National Park Travel Guide

Getting Here and Around

There are about six buses (¥2,650; 90 minutes) a day to Akanko from Kushiro Airport and station. You can also catch a bus from Akanko to Abashiri if you change buses in Bihoro. One bus a day also connects Akan to Soun-kyo.

Akan Bus Co. has escorted bus tours (in Japanese only) from May to the end of October, departing from Kushiro Station for Akanko, Lake Mashuko, and Kawayu Onsen. Since there are so few options to see this part of Japan, such tours may be unavoidable for those who don't want to drive themselves. Reservations are required.
