For a step up, some of the best (and most expensive) restaurants are often found inside hotels. Vegetarians can eat very well here, particularly in Bali; tofu and tempeh can be found almost everywhere. In resort areas such as Bali, definitely book popular restaurants in advance to ensure you get a table. You'll certainly want to try fresh seafood if you're staying by the beach.
