Few people come to Uttarakhand to experience India's many culinary delights. German bakeries and falafel shops aimed at backpacking Europeans and Israelis abound around budget hotels. Larger hotels typically serve fair to middling set menus. Lunch and dinner buffets often include passable Indian standards with a little bit of Chinese and Continental thrown in for variety. The area around Nainital, however, is orchard country, so more likely than not the jam for your toast will be fresh and locally sourced here. Meat and alcohol are rare commodities in the holy cities of Rishikesh and Haridwar.
