Decorated with Thanjavur paintings, South Indian statues, and brass lanterns shaped like temple bells, this handsome restaurant serves regional dishes from the "South" (which is what Dakshin means). Meals are presented on banana leaves and set on shining thali trays as Indian musicians perform nightly. A couple of the best entrées include Tamil Nadu's nandu puttu (an addictive mixture of steamed crab and spices), or the meen moilee ("Malay"-style fish with coconut and ginger) from Kerala, but the extensive menu includes many good options.
