Vaikuntha Perumal Temple (Vishnu's paradise)
Vaikuntha Perumal Temple (Vishnu's paradise) Review
Built in the 8th century, Vaikuntha Perumal Temple is a single structure whose principal parts make an integrated whole. The four-story vimana is square, with three shrines, each depicting Vishnu in a different pose. Two things make this temple unusual: a corridor for circumambulation of the shrines on the second and third floors, and its cloisters, with a colonnade of lion pillars and extensive sculptures bearing Pallava inscriptions. A bit removed from the crowds, the temple makes a good contrast to the more hectic options.
