Crocodile Bank

Crocodile Bank Review

Founded in 1976 by American conservationist Romulus Whitaker to protect India's dwindling crocodile population and to preserve the Irula (snake-catching) tribe's way of life, the Crocodile Bank has raised more than 6,000 crocodiles and related species. They're even shipped to other countries to support croc populations worldwide. The animals, which also include gharials and cute-looking turtles—are housed in sunken, open-air enclosures. Daily venom extractions from cobras, kraits, and vipers are not only an entertaining attraction (Rs. 5 additional), but also have helped the Irulas maintain their snake-catching culture. The venom is used to make anti-venom.
