This Mediterranean-hued, three-story place is tucked away in the heart of Udaipur's Old City, with seating inside, out on an airy veranda, and in the relaxed courtyard. The menu, just a page long, is a refreshing change from the sheaves of standard Indian, Chinese, and Continental options elsewhere. Owned by a German expat, the restaurant specializes in homemade pastas, some with an Indian (spicy) twist, and all dishes are freshly prepared using filtered water. Try the grilled fish, or Chicken Wajid Ali (stuffed with cheese, butter, dry fruits, and served with carrot rice). Beer and wine are available, as is free Wi-Fi, and a selection of unusual locally made cutlery is for sale.

We read the original Fodor's review about Savage Garden and were looking forward to a break from Indian food. The pasta did not appear to be homemade and the pomadoro sauce looked as if it had come out of a can. The service was non-existent and mosquitos reigned.
